The Verity Bag: Whistles Vs Primark

Skinted or Minted this month?

Whatever your budget is, the verity backpack is an essential for us 'practi-fashion' lovers for the mid Winter-Spring wardrobe.

Most of of us have been drooling, yet whimpering at this stunning Mini Verity Bags from Whistles; drooling for its pristine style and worn leather detail, whimpering at the price tag of £180.

If you're struggling still with your post christmas bills (still), I've found this great little compact dupe from Primark.

Mini Verity Backpack, Whistles. £180.

PU zip-front backpack, Primark. £10.

My Verdict:

You can't go wrong with Whistles; the look is so effortless, quality seems impeccable and seems to fit a lot of items thanks to the fold over zip top (from looking at videos and blogs featuring the bag).

However, as the Whistles bag is leather, it is advised not to use in rain to minimise damage; sad reality as this seems like an everyday bag.

However, for a primark bag (I'm quite hesitant in primark bags for their poor quality) its very sturdy, holds plenty of items and looks sophisticated.

While this zip up is a lot more boxy and structured, the design is very chic and has a crisp, neat appearance.  It also is compact, yet still fits my Macbook and everything else all at once.

Primark wins!

Detox your NY Resolutions; 6 realistic ways of improving yourself this year

So, how’s those New Year’s resolutions going? Fraying a little?
Don’t worry, we all tend to slip a little when it comes to the mammoth New Year’s resolutions we like to dump upon ourselves.
Whether you pledged to:

Be healthy and exercise more
(even though it’s still winter and I personally don’t feel like tucking into a fruit salad in - 5 degree weather).

Start saving more money
(my boyfriend pledged to do this, though an Xbox One and £300 TV later…)

Go dry this January without a drop of alcohol
(Seriously? Just no. The only possible way to get through dry January would be, yup, through alcohol).

And we fail year after year, but it’s not our fault.  It’s just in our nature. Once we start denying ourselves with things that we see comfort in, (food, money, socialising) it can place a strain on our already hectic schedules. Such physiological strain and negativity will naturally make us just want to cry, roll up in a ball with a massive ice cream and buy all the pointless crap possible on the internet.
So what health and lifestyle trend can possibly save us this time from our yearly failures?

Detox.

Whether it’s for your body, skincare, food, chemical intake or even clutter, it’s the craze term that I'm sure a lot of have attempted or attempting to try.

So what about detoxing your resolutions?

Instead of taking things away from your life, how about, adding, rejuvenating and refreshing your goals? Just like a smoothie. (If only…)

For me, I am planning  to ‘detox’ my day to my daily routine. Here are 3 areas to detox, plus a few ideas you can follow too:

1. Detox your well-being.

Create your #100daysofhappy

By the end of December this year, there had been a lot of ups and downs, and I realised that come January, things will just be getting harder this year. Relationships, family, jobs and money were all things I had to accept would be scarce this year. But I realised to appreciate the small things every day that make a little bit of difference. So I have started that dreaded #100daysofhappy on Instagram.

I know, I know. However,  when I saw my dear friend Siobhan Heaney use the hashtag to show her new life in Australia, I was inspired to give it a go. Not that standard Southampton can compare to Aussieland, but meh. Rather than 100days, I’m going to try every day to take a picture of something that makes me happy. Then I can look back I remember all the little good things- and not the big, bad things.

2. Detox your environment

Use up all the products you own, to the very last drop.

Girls- this one’s especially for you.

I am an absolute make-up junkie. If I need an eye shadow palette, I buy two, for good measure.  If I need a mascara, I buy three different types to hold the curl, length and volume. If I need a lipstick, I purchase 12. Literally 12; different range of colour, texture and brand, you know- all depending on how I’m feeling that day.
Over the Summer when I moved flat, I made a pledge not to buy any more of a certain product until I used up a similar product I had. This made everything so much easier and clutter free, plus I realised just how many products I really had and how much money I could save.

And while you’re at that, get ahead of your yearly ‘spring clear out’.

I am what you call a ‘fiddly stuff junkie’; anything that’s small, cute and compact I seem to just buy.  I’m not a messy nor a dirty person when it comes to my home, but I have so much clutter I just don’t know where to put it all. It used to be that the more I used to collect, the better I would feel.

Now, nothing makes me feel better than a big clear out- give your unwanted items, products and clothes to friends, sell on Ebay, Depop or even Facebook. And of course, support your local charity shop!

3. Detox your health regime

Why join the gym when you could do something exciting- for the same price?

This is what I plan to look whilst holding a glass of wine and pizza slice between my toes. #goals.

Admit it- you’ll hate the gym. And you will cancel your £20 a month gym membership because you desperately need to buy a Domino’s pizza meal deal this Tuesday.
Why don’t we make it the year of doing something exciting but will keep us fit?

This year, Jess from Your Turn, My Turn, Intern and I are trying out Pole fitness classes. (Watch this space... hopefully I'll be able to upload a photo from our class).

You get to try out something fun, work with others in your class and keep fit.
A challenge, but more fun than a treadmill!

Being a sensible drinker- that is, drinking better quality alcohol.

The cheap drinks on a student night out? Luke warm glasses with 99p vodka and red bull? Being sick in the bathroom for the rest of the night and having the worst come down ever the next day?
Pretty much my weekend in a nutshell.

However, now that I have started to indulge in better quality rums, whiskeys, gins and wines, my nights have been more enjoyable, relaxed and sick/hangover free. I presumed that drinking higher percentage drinks would cause me to pass out after an hour, however, the watered down, cheap alcohol mixed with horrid, nasty sugar drinks may be the reason why I was feeling so horrible.

I mean, I can’t guarantee any science behind it and sure it may cost you a couple of quid more, but having a high quality drink, sourced and made properly by a well-trained bartender makes a whole lot of difference to your nights out.

If you really want to lose weight, wait till the summer.

Fair enough you may have a holiday to prepare for, but this is for life, not just for the bikini body on holiday, right?
January has been so much colder and miserable than December; you can’t help but want to roll up into a ball and eat a warm, stodgy meal after cycling from work in snow and gale force winds.
Over the Summer when I started my new job, I made a lot of lifestyle changes that I have managed to stick to today- I got into the habit of running, palettes at home on the computer and the warmth of the summer made me eat plenty more salads, fruit and water. Now who wants to realistically do that during the Winter? Wait until the warmer months, it will put you in a better mood for exercise and lighter eating.

So keep this year positive and misery free. Focus on the good stuff and do what makes you feel happy, not just doing ‘what possibly could make you happy’.
